Reporting to the Manager of By-law Enforcement or designate, the Crossing Guard is responsible for safely escorting and assisting children and adults across designated roadways and intersections.

Key Responsibilities

What You Will Do:

• Assist members of the public by safely escorting them across streets as determined by the Town.
• Ensure pedestrian crossing or crosswalk signals are activated, maintaining vigilance for road and safety hazards.
• Maintain a positive public image at all times while on duty, including wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Educate the public on traffic safety regulations and promote safe use of pedestrian crossings in high-traffic areas.
• Monitor and report any safety concerns or observed problems at the assigned crosswalk to the Manager or designate.

Qualifications

We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer service-oriented team player with the following qualifications:

• Education: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent).
• Experience: Experience working with the public, especially children, with a proven record of reliability is an asset.
• Skills & Knowledge:
  • Ability to follow directions, work with minimal supervision, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Good working knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Traffic Council School Crossing Guard Guide, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS 2015.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including courtesy, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with the public and colleagues.
  • Effective verbal communication, customer service, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Certifications:
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification (or willingness to become certified) is an asset.
  • Current and acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check required.
• Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
