RE-IMAGINING TRADES: BUILDING OUR CLEAN ECONOMY FROM THE GROUND UP

RE-IMAGINING TRADES: BUILDING OUR CLEAN ECONOMY FROM THE GROUND UP

When it comes to the clean energy transition, there is much debate about which avenues are technically and financially feasible, yet much less focus is given to whether we have the capacity to construct our future sustainable infrastructure. While the realities of a skilled trades shortage are already familiar to many Torontonians as new net-zero technologies are being considered (i.e. geo-exchange), entirely new construction specialities are being created, leaving more holes in an already undersupplied workforce.

Join Geosource Energy and a panel of experts in discussing the importance of skilled trades and construction workers in facilitating a net-zero carbon transition. Hear from a wide range of panelists as they reflect on the challenges, opportunities and critical paths to success in supporting the growth of this critical labor force.

Attendees will leave the workshop knowing more about:
• The importance of skilled trades and construction workers in the emerging clean economy.
• The state of the existing skilled trades shortage and how it’s being combatted in the Toronto region.
• New skilled trades/specialities that will need particular focus in the coming years.
• Various short- and long-term capacity building strategies currently being utilized, and strategies that should be implemented to keep up with demand.
• What “the future of work” looks like for workers that can’t work remotely.

Moderator:
Darynne Hagen, Development Manager, Geosource Energy

Panelists:
Vince Schutt, Partnership & Learning Advisor and Workforce 2030 Lead, CaGBC
Tarah Clark, Partner & Chief Operating Officer, Building Up
Geni Peters, Senior Manager of Research, ECO Canada
